Viola Davis is on a winning streak.

Just a week after picking up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences, the actress can add another trophy to her collection, winning Harvard's Artist of the Year Award.

Dressed in a white floral skirt, sheer black top and black blazer, the 51-year-old actress accepted her award at the university's campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Saturday. The animated star appeared thrilled as she accepted her medal from the Harvard Foundation's Professor of Neurolgy, Dr S. Allen Counter.

But it's been a long ride to the top for the charismatic actress, who has spoken openly about her difficult upbringing.

'I was the kind of poor where I knew right away I had less than everyone around me,' she confessed to People magazine this month. 'We had nothing.'
